The Cortina Nationals

Cortina Nationals 2017

2nd Cortina Nationals

9th, 10th and 11th June 2017

The 2nd Cortina Nationals was held over the 2017 Queens birthday weekend.
More than 180 entries and over 250 people attended the event.
The event is regarded as being, again, a huge success and enjoyed by all attendees.
Attendees came in from all states and from New Zealand.
Saturday morning saw the Cortinas gather at the Wodonga Showgrounds for breakfast.
From there, cars departed on the tours.  Both the long (168km) tour and short (55km) tour were, essentially, leisurely drives though magnificent countryside.
It was a sightseeing streams of Cortinas passing through Bright, Myrtleford and Yackandandah.
Both tours rendezvoused in Beechworth for lunch and all the cars were again on display at the Police Reserve in the centre of town.
The Saturday night function was a sell out.
Over 250 people enjoyed the Saturday night dinner in the Gala Room at the Lake Hume Resort with a Special Guest Panel, (Dianne Prendergast, Eddie Wilson,
Ted Perkins, John Luxmoore and Doug Moody) giving a series of fantastic and very interesting Cortina and motor sport related talks.
All had a heap of fun talking Cortinas, listening to the speakers and all the fun and games delivered by Steve Bowen, the MC and auctioneer.
Steve did a greatly job keeping the fun and games rolling along all night.
The auction included a range a special commemorative 2nd Nationals number plates as well as featuring a wide range of unique items and memorabilia.
Sunday was the big day.  All the Cortinas were there, from Mk1s through to TFs.
Examples present represented the widest range of versions, from completely unrestored original cars, lovingly restored, lovingly updated and maintained cars,
replicas of GTs and Lotus through to highly modifieds with a range of engines.
It took many, many hours to get around all the cars, have a look at what was done to them, how it was done, talk to other Cortina owners and trade information
and stories and make some new contacts and friends.
Visitors arrived in a range of cars, such as a couple of magnificent Corsairs and a bunch of the guys from the RS Owners Club drove up for the day.
The days judging picked out worthy trophy winners in the range of classes judged.
Also worth mentioning was the BBQ pit at the Lake Hume Resort.  It provided an excellent venue on the Friday and Sunday nights for a meal and socialising.
The Cortina Mk1 Owners Club conveys many thanks to the individuals and Clubs who attended the 2nd Cortina Nationals.
Many thanks to the team of volunteers and all who helped during the event.
